Junggigo may be a new name to many of you, but he’s been thriving (and vibing) in the Korean underground scene since 2008. By collaborating with numerous hip hop artists like Paloalto and The Quiett, Junggigo’s voice has found its way onto some of the best Korean hip-hop albums that’ve been released over the years.
Interestingly, mainstream hip-hop tends to be overtly loud, but Korea’s underground flavor lends itself to far more subtle arrangements, and Junggigo’s soft vocal delivery plays perfectly to that inclination (Listen: “byebyebye“). It’s easy to see why artists keep wanting to draw him into their tracks.
His latest digital single, “Blind” (produced and written by SoulFish of Pinodyne), is no different. Smooth, soothing, and definitely lounge-worthy, it’s a track that calms the soul and leaves the listener in a dream-like state.
Junggigo’s voice isn’t necessarily mind-blowing in the sense that it could reach those high crazy notes, but regardless of that, I’m sure he’s well aware of his comfort zone. He doesn’t blow your eardrums out, and considering the audible environment he seems to work with, I don’t think he really has to.
